Kanguva OTT release expected on this festive date? Suriya film to release on Amazon Prime Video
1 month ago | 5 Views
Given that the initial day response for Suriya’s much-anticipated Kanguva is far from what the makers, the star or his die-hard fans expected it to be, it’s no surprise that a section of the audience have already made up their minds to watch the movie after it releases on an OTT platform.
The good news is that the film’s OTT rights have already been bagged by Amazon Prime Video, but the bad news is that fans who are waiting for it to stream, will have to wait for another two months, before it drops on the streaming platform.
Kanguva expected OTT release date
As per reports, Kanguva will be a festive release on OTT. While most fans would expect the movie to hit Amazon Prime Video by Christmas 2024, that’s not the case, we hear. The producers of the big-budget venture, which also has Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, have reportedly agreed to an eight-week window. This means that Kanguva will release on OTT only by Jan 15, 2025 – just in time for Pongal.
This could be true, considering that producers’ previous venture Thangalaan, which starred Vikram and Parvathy Thiruvothu, is also yet to drop on Netflix, despite hitting theatres on August 15.
Reasons to watch Kanguva in theatres
While the reviews of Kanguva have largely been negative, there’s still enough reasons to catch the movie in theatres. The biggest of them being Suriya’s performance. The film has him playing the titular role in portions set in 1070 AD and Francis in present-day sequences. The actor has put his heart and soul into the role of a warrior prince, who is tasked with protecting his tribe of people from the invading Romans and the sections of barbaric hordes.
Though the storytelling is rather basic, the film has some good visuals and action scenes, including one where Kanguva takes on two giant crocodiles and another, where he and his people use animals to outwit their invaders. Kanguva also has a cameo by Karthi, along with a tease for a sequel. It’s true that it doesn’t quite achieve what Suriya himself did with Rolex in LCU, it’s still fun to watch the Meiyazhagan actor in his barbaric avatar.
