Emergency ban and controversies

Emergency, based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is a political drama film that also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade in pivotal roles. The movie has been garnering attention for its sensitive themes and also faced severe backlash from Sikh groups. This pressure led to the delay and hold of the clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The biopic delves into the events of the 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977.

"While our film did receive clearance from the CBFC, the certification was on hold due to numerous death threats against members of the censor board," Kangana had previously commented on the CBFC nod.

The Queen actress also disclosed how there was constant pressure to cut or remove pivotal scenes from the biopic, including Indira Gandhi's assassination, and Punjab riots. However, the actress revealed that she is determined to go to court to fight for the rights of the film and is not willing to compromise.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut has announced her new patriotic film titled, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. The movie revolves around the ‘unsung heroes.’
