Actor and composer GV Prakash Kumar was recently seen in the Tamil rural drama Kalvan, which has now got an official streaming date. The film is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on May 14 and will be available in all South Indian languages.

Kalvan released in theatres on April 4 and received mixed reviews upon its release. Now, with the film set to make its OTT debut by premiering on Disney+ Hotstar on May 14, one should wait to know if the film will receive the same lukewarm response or not.

Kalvan is helmed by cinematographer PV Shankar. It is about two small-time thieves, with one of them eyeing the role of a forest officer. While pursuing this; he goes to the extent of adopting an elderly man from a hospice and bringing him home. Ivana of Love Today-fame plays the female lead in Kalvan. Actors Dheena, Bharathiraja, G Gnanasambandam, and Vinoth Munna, among others, play pivotal roles in the film.

Backed by G Dilli Babu under Axess Film Factory banner, the camera work is handled by director Shankar himself, while the story is co-written by Ramesh Aiyappan. SJ Arjun and Sivakumar Murugesan have worked on the additional screenplay of the film. Raymond Derrick Crasta has edited Kalvan.

The film received mixed reviews after its release. OTTplay’s review of the film reads, “Melodrama, unclearness and diluted screenplay take over an interesting premise. Despite its decent performances by its lead cast, there is an inevitable lag in its storytelling and Kalvan does not seem to sense it.”

On GV Prakash’s next

GV Prakash was last seen in DeAr, co-starring Aishwarya Rajesh. The film is available for streaming on Netflix. The actor will also be seen in Kingston, an upcoming big-budget fantasy film. Meanwhile, on the musical front, GV Prakash is busy scoring for Thangalaan, Amaran, Veera Dheera Sooran, Vanangaan and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam in Tamil, Lucky Baskhar and Robinhood in Telugu.
