Kalki 2898 AD’s Lord Krishna impresses the netizens
The netizens, especially the neutral audiences who had a chance to watch Kalki 2898 AD on OTT, are highly impressed with the portrayal of Lord Krishna, in the film. The cine-goers are appreciating director Nag Ashwin and his team for taking the creative call to show the Hindu God as a dark-skinned man, instead of painting him blue like most of the films. They also feel that the actor Krishna Kumar aka KK, who played Krishna in the film, is the perfect choice for the epic character.
“As far as I know, #Kalki2898AD team are the only ones who portrayed Krishna with the right skin tone,” wrote a fan on his X (formerly Twitter) post. “He is perfect for Krishna's role. What a casting,” reads a fan post. “For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, Lord Krishna has been portrayed as a dark-skinned person and his face was silhouetted because the director felt it’s not right to associate an incarnation of God with any actor,” reads another post.
Nag Ashwin about the casting of Kalki 2898 AD
In an earlier interview with a leading online media, director Nag Ashwin revealed that he never wanted a popular actor to play the role of Lord Krishna, in Kalki 2898 AD. Earlier, many popular names including superstar Mahesh Babu and Nani were rumoured to be playing Krishna, in the film. However, the role was played by Krishna Kumar. According to the director, it was decided that a lesser-known actor or a newcomer should play Krishna in the film, as the team didn’t want a superstar’s image to take over the feeling of witnessing Krishna’s aura on silver screen.
