Filmmaker Nag Ashwin's "Kalki 2898 AD," featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, made a significant impact at the box office following its release last year. Fans are now eagerly anticipating the sequel. In light of this excitement, the director has provided an important update.
Nag Ashwin shares update on Kalki 2898 AD sequel
Ashwin's first directorial venture, "Yevade Subramanyam," is scheduled for a theatrical re-release. During a recent media event celebrating the film's 10th anniversary, he delighted fans by revealing details about the sequel to "Kalki 2898 AD." He confirmed that work on the sequel is in progress, with filming expected to commence in December of this year.
The director also addressed concerns regarding Prabhas's limited screen presence in the first installment. He explained that the initial film concentrated on building the world and developing the backstories of Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) to lay the groundwork for Karna (Prabhas). He stated, "The second part will feature more of Prabhas, as it will primarily focus on the characters of Karna and Ashwatthama."
Previously, during an Instagram Live session with Prabhas, Nag Ashwin mentioned that the second part of the film would require three years for completion. In the first film, Prabhas portrayed Bhairava, a rugged and ambitious bounty hunter from the dystopian city of Kasi. Amitabh Bachchan played Ashwatthama, while Deepika Padukone took on the role of SUM-80, a woman believed to be carrying the last divine avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki. Kamal Haasan played Yaskin, the primary antagonist.
