Junaid Khan on His 'Loveyapa' Casting: 'I Felt Miscast and Surprised by the Decision'

Loveyapa, featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, is directed by Advait Chandan. The narrative revolves around the characters portrayed by Khushi and Junaid, who aspire to marry each other. Their contemporary love story takes an unforeseen twist when the bride's father challenges them to exchange their mobile phones for a duration of 24 hours. In anticipation of the film's release, Junaid expressed his initial doubts regarding his character in Loveyapa, noting his astonishment that the filmmakers chose him for the role.

In a recent discussion, Junaid Khan shared his reservations about taking on the lead role in Loveyapa, citing a significant difference between his own personality and that of his character. He admitted that, if given the choice, he would not have selected himself for the lead role in the film.
Junaid remarked, “I was somewhat taken aback that they wanted me because I believed my personality was quite distant from the character. I inquired if they were certain about my suitability for the role. Personally, I wouldn’t have cast myself in this part, but Advait (Chandan) and Madhu (Mantena) sir appeared to have great confidence in my abilities.”
Junaid recounted that the director, Advait Chandan, approached him to inform him that he possessed the rights to a Tamil film and encouraged him to view it. He summarized the plot in a single line, describing a scenario in which a young man visits the family of his love interest, only for her father to request that they swap their mobile phones.
"I was captivated by the premise and felt a surge of excitement. Pradeep (Ranganathan) Sir has excelled in his work on Love Today. He took on the roles of director, writer, and actor, and the result was remarkable," Junaid expressed.
Regarding the script of Loveyapa, Khushi Kapoor remarked, “I had seen the original film after my father recommended it, and I was instantly drawn to the story. Following the initial narration, I had no reservations. Our scriptwriter, Sneha, delivered the narration with such humour that it felt as though we were experiencing the film itself. There was never any doubt in my mind; I was simply thrilled."
Aamir Khan's cameo on Loveyapa
In a recent interview, director Advait Chandan disclosed that Aamir Khan will be making a brief cameo appearance, stating, "He appears in two shots. You will certainly notice him when you view the film."
The cast of Loveyapa also includes Grusha Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Tanvika Parlikar, Kiku Sharda, and Kunj Anand. Directed by Advait Chandan and produced by Phantom Studios and AGS Entertainment, Loveyapa is scheduled to be released in theatres on February 7, 2025. Following its theatrical release, the film will be accessible for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
