The film opened to rave reviews and most critics have labelled Kangana’s act in the film as her career best. Judgemental Hai Kya also features Brijendra Kala, Jimmy Shergill, and Amyra Dastur. After 2013 released Vikas Bahl's film, Queen, this was the second time Kangana and Rajkummar Rao came together for a film.

When the film was announced with the title Mental Hai Kya, it faced a lot of controversies and wrath from the Indian Psychiatry Society who objected to the original title. An appeal and few discussions later, the name was then changed to Judgementall Hai Kya.

The film was earlier set to clash with Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30, which was eventually shifted to another date later. Speaking about the same, in an old interview with Peepingmoon, Kangana said that she does not consider Super 30 as a threat. She said, "For us, Kabir Singh would have proved a bigger threat than Super 30. So, we were more worried about giving ourselves a window between Kabir Singh and ourselves. We didn't even think of Super 30. Ekta made a smart business move by giving a few weeks between Kabir Singh and us.”
