That we are just a few weeks away from the release of the most anticipated superhero movie of the year, after Deadpool & Wolverine, makes us feel so elated. The tsunami of content has hit us hard, and we hope it doesn't stop. Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2, is fast approaching its big-screen release, and there is no way we aren't going to show excitement as Joaquin Phoenix returns to his Oscar-winning role, this time with Lady Gaga by his side. So, when we see them take over the world musically in the trailer, it only makes us wonder how the future looks for these two, who are quite different from the rest of DC Elseworlds and the DCU (though we haven't seen much about it yet). Fans have been theorizing about where Gaga as Harley Quinn and Phoenix as Arthur Fleck will go from here. But while we keep guessing, Todd Phillips has given an upsetting update about Joker 3

Can Joker 3 Happen?

Todd Phillips has successfully directed the two Joker movies, with the first, released on October 2, 2019, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever for five years, before Deadpool & Wolverine dethroned it last week. The director, who is currently surrounded by questions, is also being asked about Joker 3. However, he has now broken his silence and hinted at a disappointing twist in the tale. Read on to know everything you should about the same.

Director Todd Phillips, in an interview with Variety, was asked whether there is a future for Joker 3 beyond Joker: Folie à Deux. The filmmaker was quick to say that he has nothing more left to say with this franchise. Phillips said, "It was fun to play in this sort of sandbox for two movies, but I think we've said what we wanted to say in this world." This means we should not really expect a third Joker movie anytime soon. But one cannot completely rule out the possibility because even after the 2019 Joker, Phillips wasn't initially keen on making Joker 2. But with time, he agreed, and now we are sitting a month and a few days away from its release.

The Comedy Todd Phillips Always Wanted to Make With Joaquin Phoenix

The formation of this partnership was actually for a dark comedy that Todd Phillips never got to make with Joaquin Phoenix. Funding was an issue, which put their plans on the backburner. However, now that the two have proved what magic they can create together, it makes all the sense for producers to invest in their partnership and maybe bring out that dark comedy Todd always wanted to make.

He even spoke about wanting to make a comedy film with Joaquin Phoenix in the same interview. "I'd love to keep working with Joaquin, but on a comedy, because he can be so loose and funny," Phillips says. "And I think people really want comedies right now. The trailer for Joker 2 sort of sums things up when it says, 'What the world needs now is love.' But I would go further: We could use a good laugh too."

Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2, hits the big screen across the globe on October 4, 2024. Stay tuned to Mobile Masala for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
