Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina's Jigra teaser trailer has become a talking point on social media since its release. The makers dropped the teaser trailer of Vasan Bala's film directly on YouTube and various social media platforms. Several Bollywood celebrities lauded the glimpse of Alia and Vedang's film, which is about a sister going to any extent to save her brother. The latest buzz is that Jigra is reportedly an adaptation of Sanjay Dutt's 1993 film Gumrah.

Is Jigra an adaptation of Gumrah?

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Jigra is said to be an adaptation of the film Gumrah, which also featured Sridevi and Rahul Roy. Gumrah's story was of a man who went to extreme lengths to save his lover, who was imprisoned in a foreign country. But a few modifications have been made to Alia and Vedang's intense thriller.

"Jigra makers decided to remake Gumrah but with certain modifications. Two of the biggest changes they have made from the story of the original is that here it’s the girl who’s saving the boy. Also, instead of them being lovers, they are siblings," a source told the tabloid.

The source further mentioned that securing the rights of Gumrah wasn't a problem for the makers. It is because the 1993 film was also produced by Dharma Productions. As for Jigra, the film has been backed by Karan Johar's production house along with Eternal Sunshine Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

Alia Bhatt on Jigra

For the uninitiated, Alia Bhatt announced Jigra last year in September. While sharing the first look of her film, the actress captioned her Instagram post, "Presenting Jigra, directed by the extremely talented vasanbala and produced by dharmamovies & eternalsunshineproduction. From debuting in a Dharma production to now producing a film with them, in many ways, it feels like coming full circle from where I started (sic)."

Helmed by Vasan Bala, Jigra will hit the silver screen on October 11, 2024.
