In December, the teaser trailer for James Gunn's new Superman film got everyone talking. Now, the director has dropped another teaser for the much-awaited movie, featuring David Corenswet in the lead role.
Check out the latest teaser for Superman
Superman kicks off the teaser by calling out to his buddy Krypto, his dog, while he's stuck in the snow, badly hurt. Then we see him saving the people of Metropolis as he takes on a massive fire-breathing monster. There's also a moment where Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor steps off a plane, and it wraps up with Superman soaring through some sharp ice formations. This is our first glimpse of Superman flying in the upcoming movie, but a lot of fans pointed out some less exciting aspects in the clip.
The internet is buzzing over the latest teaser
James Gunn shared a teaser on Instagram, saying, "It begins, July 11." While some fans were excited about the reveal, others weren't so impressed. One person commented, "It looks awesome… the flying transition shot is cool, but his eyes looked off in that scene… I hope they fix that." Another user said, "The last shot was pretty bad… but overall, it’s good." A third comment read, "You can do better next time." And someone else added, "Oh no! I really hope I’m wrong, but this doesn’t look good to me. That flying scene? Yikes. It didn’t seem fast, controlled, or powerful like Superman should be."
Here's the scoop on the Superman reboot
When talking about what inspired him to create his take on Superman, James Gunn shared with Screen Rant, “I’ve been influenced by all the previous DC media. Of course, the original Donner film had an impact, but I’m not just trying to replicate that. It’s quite different. Zack [Snyder] brought some great elements to the table too. There are so many influences, including the DC animated universe and, most importantly, the comic books. All-Star Superman had a huge impact on me. I wanted to capture that Silver Age vibe, with a sci-fi twist and some cool gadgets. Lex [Luthor] is almost like a sorcerer in a way. He’s a scientist, but he’s so skilled that I see him as a kind of sorcerer.”
James Gunn's version of Superman is the third reboot of the character and will kick off a new DC Universe, distinct from the DCEU where Henry Cavill previously portrayed Superman. The film features a cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell. It’s set to premiere on July 11.
