Saiju Kurup's latest film, Bharathanatyam, is currently available on Manorama Max and Amazon Prime Video. After making its digital premiere, the film has been getting positive reviews despite having an average theatrical run. Speaking with OTTplay, Saiju discussed how his films have a track record of performing well online.
Bharathanatyam's success on OTT
The actor noted that it is challenging to forecast, prior to a film's release, whether it would perform well in theatres or on streaming services. He gave a few instances, including his films, Janamaithri, Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan, and Janaki Jaane, which attracted a lot of attention after they were released digitally. "I think there are a lot of reasons why many films fail to have a long and prosperous theatrical run. Nevertheless, depending on the quality of content, they unquestionably work well on digital platforms," he stated.
Saiju Kurup stated that he believes himself to be a lucky actor when it comes to OTT and conveyed his joy at the positive reception he is getting for his first production, Bharathanatyam, in which he is also playing the lead role.
Unpredictability of a film's success
The Abraham Ozler star made the point that, whether it's in theatres or on OTT platforms, the main goal is to entertain the audience. "When I hear a script, I try to envision whether or not a broad audience would find it compelling. Our priorities should be concentrating on delivering good films and not getting too worked up about breaking box office records, he continued.
Saiju clarified, nonetheless, that he does prioritise averting consecutive failures in terms of financial damage for producers. "If I am playing the lead, I stick to certain budget films because I don't want my producers to suffer," the actor said. He continued by saying that although an actor's top goal is to consistently provide the audience with greater content, there are occasions when a movie's conclusion does not turn out as planned.
