Gopichand Malineni's first Bollywood movie, Jaat, faced some backlash just days after it hit theaters on April 10. Gopichand Malineni discusses the contentious scene featuring Randeep Hooda
Gopichand spoke about the contentious scene in Jaat where Randeep and his crew intimidate individuals inside a church, with the actor positioned in front of a crucifix. Regarding the backlash, the director explained, “The censor board didn’t raise any issues with the trailer, but later they asked us to blur the background in the final cut. This was done even before any complaints came in. For a film to be a hit, it needs to reach a wide audience. No filmmaker aims to offend anyone or any community; our goal is to entertain.”

On Friday, Jaat's team put out a statement regarding the removal of a particular scene from the movie. They emphasized that they never meant to offend anyone's beliefs, stating, “We’ve received backlash over a specific scene in the film, and it has been removed right away. Our goal was never to upset any religious sentiments. We truly regret this situation and have acted swiftly to delete the scene. We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt hurt by it.”
What does the FIR filed against team Jaat indicate?
As reported by PTI, a complaint has been made against the team behind the film Jaat, claiming that it features scenes that are disrespectful to Jesus Christ and Christian traditions. The person filing the complaint, Viklav Gold, also raised concerns about the film's release timing, which coincides with Holy Week. Sanjeev Kumar, the SHO at the Jalandhar Cantonment police station, confirmed that an FIR was filed under section 299 on Wednesday evening, naming actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar, along with director Gopichand and producer Naveen from Mythri Movie Makers.
