1 month ago | 5 Views
When Netflix unveiled its lineup for 2024, one particular series captured the attention of viewers, featuring Shabana Azmi alongside a talented cast that includes Nimisha Sajayan, Sai Tamhankar, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, and Gajraj Rao. This show, set against the backdrop of the underworld, delves into the drug trade and the involvement of these women in its operations. The audience was immediately captivated and looked forward to its debut. However, it came as a surprise that the premiere would be delayed by an entire year. We are referring to Dabba Cartel, which finally became available on Netflix on February 28, 2025. After binge-watching the complete series, the pressing question now is: Will there be a second season of this critically acclaimed series, supported by Farhan Akhtar?
Will Dabba Cartel Have A Second Season?
Dabba Cartel presents an intriguing narrative in which women assert their authority and demonstrate their resilience. Developed by Shibani Akhtar and Vishnu Menon, directed by Hitesh Bhatia, and supported by Farhan Akhtar, the series has maintained a level of secrecy regarding many of its elements. While we refrain from revealing any spoilers, the anticipation surrounding a potential Season 2 is palpable. Although there has been no formal announcement confirming a second season, various indicators suggest its likelihood. The conclusion of the first season leaves viewers with a dramatic setup that hints at ongoing tensions and unresolved conflicts, paving the way for further developments.
For instance, there remains much to explore concerning Sheela Baa, also known as Kashi, and her backstory. Shalini Pandey’s character, Raji, has committed a murder and is now entangled with a drug cartel to safeguard her loved ones. Anjali Anand’s Shaheeda has deleted Preeti’s (Sai Tamhankar) contact, signaling her intent to sever romantic ties for protective reasons. Concurrently, Preeti is piecing together the relationship between Shaheeda and Varuna (Jyothika), having noticed a shared bag at Varuna’s boutique, and is resolute in her quest for the truth.
Additionally, Pathak (Gajraj Rao) has uncovered a connection between Modella and Meethai (the drugs associated with Dabba Cartel), suspecting involvement from someone within VivaLife. It is only a matter of time before Preeti and Pathak draw the necessary connections. With numerous unresolved story arcs, it is evident that a second season would offer ample opportunities for further narrative exploration. Nevertheless, an official confirmation remains awaited, and the timeline for such an announcement is uncertain.
Shabana Azmi On Dabba Cartel And Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo Comparisons
Recently, numerous internet users have highlighted the resemblances between Dabba Cartel and the JioCinema (previously known as Hotstar) series Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo, featuring Dimple Kapadia in the leading role. In an interview with India Today, Shabana Azmi addressed these comparisons, stating, "Prior to viewing the show, I was apprehensive about potential direct comparisons. However, Shibani (Shibani Akhtar, the creator of Dabba Cartel) expressed confidence and reassured me that such comparisons would not occur. Her conviction provided me with a sense of relief. Upon watching the show, I found it to be exceptionally well-produced, yet distinctly different from ours. Their setting is exotic, characterized by unique costumes and a specific dialect. In contrast, our series presents a more realistic portrayal, focusing on the lives of middle-class women. Therefore, I believe there is no substantial basis for comparison."
