The curiosity about who makes it to Deadpool & Wolverine and who doesn't has skyrocketed, reaching cosmic levels. We have spent a couple of years anticipating the movie that brings back Deadpool, marking his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut post the 20th Century Fox acquisition by Disney. If that wasn't enough, the makers gave us another massive update by casually announcing that even Wolverine is returning, with Hugh Jackman reprising the role after bidding farewell to the character in the 2017 release Logan. But anything is possible in the multiverse and Marvel, leaving us more than excited. Now that the movie inches closer to release and is less than a month away from hitting the big screen, a new rumor talks of Robert Downey Jr., aka Iron Man.

Iron Man Was Set To Return In Deadpool & Wolverine?

Yes, we did mention RDJ, Iron Man, and Deadpool & Wolverine in the same sentence, and you read it in the same breath. But do not raise your hopes too high because, by the end of this report, they might not meet a satisfying redemption. While we have been told there are hundreds of cameos and characters in Deadpool 3, which is set to directly link to Avengers: Secret Wars, there is no clarity on the level of these cameos. Sabertooth and many X-Men characters are, of course, a given, but the gigantic Ant-Man helmet in the trailer has left us excited for what is to come.

The latest report, however, suggests the wildness of these cameos as it claims that Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Iron Man was considered for a post-credit scene. Yes, you heard that right. The report comes from scooper MCM Culture, who has managed to bring us some of the most substantial rumors in recent times. If he is to be believed, the makers were planning and even wanted Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark for a post-credit scene in Deadpool & Wolverine, but it did not work out, and they had to scrap the idea.

This suggests that Marvel is indeed actively thinking of ways to bring back Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU, as he was the heart of the franchise for over a decade. There have been infinite rumors about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the unbeatable Iron Man. He died in the Battle of Earth where the Avengers fought Thanos, who wanted to eradicate the planet. He took the bolt and sacrificed himself in the process of ending Thanos.
