After several months of postponement, Christopher Nolan's acclaimed science-fiction film Interstellar, originally released in 2014, is set to be re-released in Indian theatres, including in IMAX format. Although the film was reintroduced in US cinemas on December 6 of the previous year to celebrate its 10th anniversary, it faced limitations in IMAX screen availability due to the overwhelming success of Sukumar's blockbuster Telugu action thriller, Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Here's when Interstellar re-releases in India

On Friday, the official X account of Warner Bros India unveiled the re-release poster for Interstellar, accompanied by a caption that read, “The stars are aligning once more! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is set to return to Indian cinemas, including IMAX, on February 7. Experience the adventure beyond time and space once again!” The post also included the hashtags – Interstellar, Christopher Nolan, 10th Anniversary, Anne Hathaway, and Matthew McConaughey.

Following its re-release in the United States last month, Interstellar achieved the distinction of being the ninth highest-grossing IMAX film in history, trailing only Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film garnered $4.5 million from 166 screens across the US and Canada, prompting theatres to rush to accommodate additional showings, with some tickets fetching prices as high as $300 on the resale market. The average revenue per theatre for those ten screens reached an impressive $70,000, marking one of the highest averages of the year.

Reflecting on the success of Interstellar's re-release after a decade, Christopher Nolan expressed to the Associated Press, "I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and, in particular, on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
