Christopher Nolan's film Interstellar has recently been re-released in the United States, and following the success of its limited engagement, it is now returning to theatres in Columbus in IMAX format today, December 13. The film's immense popularity has resulted in secondary market ticket prices exceeding $200, prompting fans to urgently seek available seats.

Interstellar IMAX re-release

Featuring performances by Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey, Interstellar was initially re-released in select locations on December 6. This limited engagement proved to be successful, generating $4.5 million across 166 screens. Given the film's popularity, it will now be shown at AMC theatres in Grover City and Easton.

As reported by Variety, tickets for Interstellar have been sold for as much as $215. The film's initial screenings across 166 screens in the United States sold out quickly, leading producers to schedule additional showings. The IMAX 70mm presentations sold out within minutes, with those 10 screens averaging an impressive $70,000 per theatre.

Interstellar re-release in India

Interstellar did not receive an IMAX re-release in India, as Pushpa 2 occupied all available IMAX screens in December. The film, featuring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, has attracted large audiences and is performing exceptionally well at the box office. However, some fans of Nolan have expressed frustration over the absence of Interstellar's re-release in India due to Pushpa 2's dominance. Recent reports indicate that the acclaimed science fiction film is now set to be re-released in India in early 2025.

Reflecting on the success of Interstellar's re-release after a decade, Christopher Nolan shared with the Associated Press, "I was just so gratified by the response. It’s thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and, in particular, on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
