The world of animation and storytelling reached new heights when Pixar introduced Inside Out to the world. The story took place inside the mind of a young girl as she learned about and developed her emotions, which became the drivers of her actions. The movie quickly became so wildly popular that the studio greenlit a sequel. Inside Out 2 was released in theaters this year and took the world by storm. The film became the highest-grossing animated movie of the year and ever, earning $1.649 billion at the global box office, according to Variety. Given this success, it's no surprise that Pixar is exploring new avenues. Now, they have announced Dream Productions, a spin-off show from the Inside Out movie franchise, and it’s set to release much sooner than expected.

Dream Productions Announcement

Since Pixar revealed its movie calendar for 2024, fans have been eager to know about the secret project that wasn't mentioned in the schedule. The buzz eventually faded as people focused on what had been released and confirmed. However, this week, Pixar suddenly announced the release of Dream Productions, a spin-off series that will focus on the small section of Riley’s brain responsible for making dreams. The show is designed with a behind-the-scenes, film production vibe, and here's everything you need to know about it.

The Teaser & Release Date

When Pixar announced the release date for Dream Productions, they revealed a teaser that plays like a mockumentary, similar to behind-the-scenes videos we’ve seen over the years. A glimpse of this concept was actually shown in the first Inside Out movie, in case you don’t recall. In the teaser, we see Joy being interviewed about her job, leading to inevitable chaos. The teaser also confirms that the show is arriving much sooner than expected, with a release date of December 11, 2024.

Plot & Episode Count

Dream Productions is set between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2, acting as a bridge between the two. The series will focus on the dreams that Riley experiences and how they shape her. Pixar has confirmed that the show will consist of just four episodes, with no word yet on whether it will be a recurring series or just a one-off season.

The official logline reads, “Riley is growing up, and when her memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: trying to create the next hit dream after being paired with Xeni (voiced by Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams.”

The Dream Productions Team & Streaming Platform

The cast of Dream Productions will include voice actors such as Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith. The Inside Out spin-off is written and directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon. The show will stream on Disney+ Hotstar in India.

Tune in to watch Dream Productions on December 11, 2024.
