Porichoy Gupta: The release of Indraneil Sengupta-Ritwick Chakraborty’s film postponed

After the heinous rape and murder of a young junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, the city has witnessed unprecedented protests from different corners of life. Subsequently, Bengali films have suffered. The release dates of films, including Parambrata Chatterjee’s Ei Raat Tomar Amar – which features Anjan Dutt and Aparna Sen – Anko Ki Kothin, and others got postponed. In fact, the films – Srijit Mukherji’s Padatik and Raj Chakraborty’s Babli, which were released on August 15, suffered at the box office.
Amod this, Indraneil Sengupta and Ritwick Chakraborty’s Porichoy Gupta was scheduled to hit the theatres on September 20. Now, the makers of the film Parichay Gupta made a decision and postponed the release of the film.
Previously, the release date was changed several times. It is directed by Ron Raj. The makers and the director said on Sunday, “The release is postponed for some time. We came to this stage keeping in mind our thoughts and humanity. We apologize to the audience. We pray for everyone’s good. The truth will prevail.”
The film is set in a large time span between 1925 and 1970. Ron Raj prepared for a year and a half to make the period piece. Ayantika Banerjee wrote the story. Ron Raj wrote the script.
Ritwick Chakraborty plays a blind landlord and Indraneil Sengupta plays his archeologist friend. Darshana Banik plays Ritwick’s wife. Joy Sengupta plays Subala, a transvestite. The film has layers of mystery. It reflects the Babu culture and the city of Kolkata at that time.
The film is produced by Pandey Motion Pictures and Purnanjali Media Private Limited. The makers did not yet confirm when the film would finally be released.
