Some films, which are of course iconic, have an elevated recall value. They are so ingrained in our core memories that we don't need to put in any effort to talk about them at any time of the day. One such movie, beloved by a Pan-Indian audience before "Pan-Indian" even became a term, is Indian. Titled Hindustani for the Hindi-speaking audience, this movie was the original trendsetter for many films that followed. It catered to a broad audience, and we were all ready to suspend our disbelief for a story that ranged from a man fighting the world to transforming in unexpected ways. We never questioned his age or methods—his world was one we loved and entered countless times. This connection became so strong that a sequel was made almost three decades later.
Indian Turns 28
Today, Indian turns 28. The film is almost three decades old and still as fresh as when it first released. Kamal Haasan weaved magic, and we followed him without question. The first Indian film, released in 1996, turned out to be a success and a cult classic for years to come. Now, as the film completes 28 years, how can we not celebrate the occasion by re-watching it? Below is where you can watch the Haasan starrer on streaming platforms in India. Read on to know everything you need about it.

Shankar on Indian’s Age
With Indian 2 releasing this year, the biggest question was about Kamal Haasan’s age in the movie. The filmmaker quickly responded in an India Today report, stating that he is as old as Superman. For Shankar, the character is no less than a superhero. “He is only as old as Superman,” Shankar said. He continued, “Yes, I see him as a superhero. This is a question I get asked all the time. When I made the first part, I wasn’t even aware that I would be making a sequel. I wanted to be true to that film, and since I was showing him as a freedom fighter, I had to reveal his birth year. So, during the investigation in the film, it’s revealed he was born in 1918 or something—I don’t even remember.”
He added, “I see him as a martial arts master. In China, there are many martial arts masters, and one master named Lu Zijian was 108 years old and still active, flying, and kicking. It’s because of their discipline and how they practiced the art. Senapathy is also a martial arts master. He’s the master of Varma, so I see him as a superhero.”
