After much production delays and hassles, Indian 2 finally hit theatres on Friday. However, the film could not manage to captivate the audience like the first part did. Despite Kamal Haasan and Shankar once again reuniting to bring back Senapathy, the film failed to recreate the magic of the first part.

For those unversed, Indian 2 is the sequel of Shankar and Kamal Haasan’s 1996 film Indian. The film follows former freedom fighter turned vigilante Senapathy who fights against corruption by following Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s path. With the third part on its way, we explain you the ending of Indian 2 and what to expect from the third instalment. (Spoilers to follow)

Indian 2 ending explained

After a group of YouTubers who run a channel highlighting corruption in society, request Senapathy to come back to weed out the malpractice in the society, the former freedom fighter indeed makes a return. However, he first requests each of them to check malpractices at their own homes before pointing out fingers. In what follows, each of the youngster understand how their own family members are corrupt and as they turn them in to police, personal losses affect them.

Fed up with what they have made their family members go through despite being corrupt, the youngsters’ hatred for Senapathy is fuelled when one of them lose their mother to death. It is at this point, Senapathy is captured by the police official Pramod (Bobby Simha). But one weak moment from Pramod’s side, makes Senapathy attack him using his varma kalai. Now his life at stake, Pramod’s family request the law to let go of Senapathy in exchange of saving Pramod’s life.

At the end of Indian 3 we see Senapathy let go scot-free, as he drives an ambulance with Pramod in it, in order to escape and save the latter’s life. However, that is not all of it. The story of Senapathy will continue, as we see a glimpse of Indian 3 towards the end of sequel.

What to expect from Indian 3

Senapathy takes us back to the 1800s, when the Britishers ruled India and colonised the locals for their own benefits. We are introduced to the “war” which took place against the British, as Senapathy narrates the ordeals to the youngsters.

With many atrocities committed by British officers on Indians, we are shown how Senapathy talks about the losses they felt during the time. We are also introduced to Veerasekharan Senapathy (played by Kamal Haasan), the freedom fighter who fought along with the character played by Kajal Agarwal.

From showing that Veerasekharan Senapathy being given the capital punishment to SJ Suryah attacking Senapathy with varma kalai, Indian 3 glimpse builds expectations to save the franchise’s legacy name. Is it capable of doing that? We will have to wait and watch until Indian 3 hits theatres in 2025.
