The movie, which marked the second collaboration of Kamal Haasan and director Shankar was expected to recreate the success of the original but ended up as one of the biggest failures in the actor-director duo’s respective careers. Meanwhile, the Indian 2 OTT release is now reportedly in trouble, due to the poor box-office performance of the film.

Indian 2 OTT release in trouble?

As reported earlier, the post-theatrical OTT rights of Indian 2 were bagged by Netflix, much before the film hit the big screens. The streaming giant bought the OTT rights of the Kamal Haasan starrer for a whopping amount. However, the grapevine suggests that the OTT release of the Shankar directorial is in trouble now, after the film tanked miserably at the box office. For the uninitiated, Indian 2, which is made with a budget of Rs. 250 crore, hardly made around Rs. 50 crore from its lifetime theatrical run.

If the recent updates are to be believed, the Kamal Haasan starrer is now in trouble as Netflix has been trying to revise the OTT deal. According to the grapevine, the OTT giant has decided to play only half of the promised amount, as Indian 2 failed to create any impact at the box office. This has reportedly led to a major disagreement between Netflix and Lyca Productions, the banner that bankrolled director Shankar’s ambitious project.

Earlier, it was speculated that Indian 2 will hit the OTT screens on August 9, 2024. However, the ongoing disagreement between the streaming platform and the makers of the film has landed the film’s OTT release in big trouble. According to the rumour mills, that is the reason why both Netflix and Lyca Productions have not officially announced the OTT release date and time of the Kamal Haasan starrer, even after the movie completed three weeks of the same. However, the OTT release date announcement will be out once the disagreement is settled.
