Identity's Day 1 Box Office: Tovino Thomas' Thriller Surpasses Marco but Needs Strong Weekend Performance
3 days ago | 5 Views
Unni Mukundan's film Marco has finally lost its top position at the Kerala box office. The action film, which successfully competed against Mohanlal's Barroz, Aashiq Abu's Rifle Club, and various other releases in different languages, including Mufasa: The Lion King, Viduthalai 2, and Baby John, was surpassed on Thursday by 'Identity'.
The film starring Tovino Thomas, alongside Trisha Krishnan and Vinay Rai, garnered Rs 1.8 crore on its opening day, as reported by industry analysts Sacnilk. This figure falls approximately one crore short of Tovino's earlier release, Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM). This outcome was anticipated, considering that Thursday was a weekday and ARM was released during the Onam festival, which had achieved Rs 2.9 crore on its opening day.
Identity beats Marco at the Kerala box office
Identity, directed by Anas Khan and Akhil Paul, has surpassed Marco’s two-week dominance at the Kerala box office. Although the Unni Mukundan film garnered only Rs 75 lakh on Thursday, it is expected to pose significant competition to Tovino’s film over the weekend.
This high-budget thriller centres on three main characters who must collaborate to track down a mysterious killer. The narrative follows a police officer, a witness, and a sketch artist, each concealing their true identities. The success of the film hinges on a strong weekend box office performance to achieve profitability from its theatrical release. The unfolding investigation raises questions about how their hidden truths will impact their quest for justice.
Identity to face competition from January 10 releases
The thriller is set to be released just one week prior to the theatrical debut of Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Arjun Ashokan’s Ennu Swantham Punyalan. Both films feature Anaswara Rajan in the leading role. The thriller must perform well at the box office during this timeframe.
