The upcoming Malayalam film, Identity, which stars Tovino Thomas in the lead role, is among the actor’s highly anticipated projects of this year. Forensic-fame director duo Akhil Paul and Anas Khan have directed this movie, which is touted to be a full-fledged crime thriller. Identity, which was originally scheduled to premiere on big screens in September during Onam, is reportedly preparing for a Christmas 2024 release.
Release of Tovino Thomas’ Identity postponed?
The makers of the movie have not provided any further information regarding its release. It was, however, previously reported that this project would be Tovino Thomas's major return to the pan-Indian context and that it would serve as the ideal prelude to the release of his much-anticipated period drama, Ajayante Randam Moshanam.
According to reports, the crime thriller is getting ready for a pan-Indian release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. With this film, Trisha Krishnan is expected to return to Malayalam cinema. Vinay Rai and Mandira Bedi also play important roles in the film.
Ajayante Randam Moshanam tangled in legal issues
Recent reports state that a resident of Ernakulam has filed a lawsuit against UGM Movies, the production company funding Ajayante Randam Moshanam. The petitioner submitted Rs 3.2 crore for the production of Ajayante Randam Moshanam, according to the complaint. The petitioner also claims that the film was covertly transferred to another person, and he was never granted ownership of it.
According to the most recent reports, director Jithin Lal's financial transactions are suspended by an order from the Eranakulam sessions court. Subsequently, all significant commercial agreements pertaining to the Tovino Thomas film, such as its theatrical, OTT streaming, satellite, and audio rights, have been suspended indefinitely. If so, the release of the period drama may also be delayed until the producers find an agreeable resolution to the legal issues. Additionally, it was reported that the crew intended to postpone Ajayante Randam Moshanam's release to December.
