Malayalam superstar Tovino Thomas is set to commence the year 2025 for the film industry with his high-budget action film, Identity. The cast also features Trisha Krishnan, Mandira Bedi, and Vinay Rai. The production team announced the theatrical release date of the film alongside the trailer launch on December 23.
This film signifies the collaboration of directors Anas Khan and Akhil Paul, who previously worked on Forensic, with Tovino. Filming took place last year across various states in the country and includes impressive action sequences, one of which is set inside an airplane.
Identity release date: When to watch Tovino Thomas’ film?
Identity is set to be the inaugural Malayalam film of 2025, with its theatrical release scheduled for January 2. At present, it faces no direct competition, as the most recent Malayalam film prior to this is Mohanlal’s Barroz, which is slated for release during Christmas 2024.
It remains uncertain whether Marco, Rifle Club, and Barroz will maintain sufficient momentum to challenge Tovino’s Identity in the New Year. Should they succeed, it would signify a promising beginning for the industry, which reportedly experienced a loss of Rs 1000 crore, despite several significant blockbusters last year, including Manjummel Boys, Premalu, and Aavesham.
Reasons to watch Tovino Thomas’ Identity
The final 45 minutes of the film unfolds in a setting that has not yet been depicted in Malayalam cinema, making it essential to present it on such a grand scale to enhance its authenticity, remarked co-director Akhil Paul during a recent promotional interview.
In addition to the impressive action sequences featured in the film, Identity boasts a skilled ensemble cast that is likely to resonate with audiences from various industries and age demographics.
In a recent discussion, Tovino shared insights about his character in the film. "This role possesses unique traits that I have not portrayed before. For this type of character, excessive acting is unnecessary. He is a sketch artist who, at one point, collaborates with the police to create sketches," Tovino explained.
Regarding the inclusion of cast members from different industries, the Thallumaala actor stated, "We required individuals like them because they portray characters who are not originally from Kerala." Vinay Rai takes on the role of a police officer from Bengaluru, while Trisha will portray a Malayali residing in Bengaluru.
