Taking to his social media account, Vijay Varma shared a heartfelt note as he recollected meeting the pilot for the first time. He also shared how he was taken in by his simplicity despite being a part of a brave event.
Sharing pictures with him on Instagram, Vijay wrote in the caption, "Real and Reel Captain Sharan. When I first met captain.. I was taken in by his pleasant smile and his simplicity.. and then I saw a scar on his neck.. I asked him about it.. he simply and politely said “woh hijackers ki gun 7 din tak yahi ragadti rahi toh wound ho gaya tha jo heal nahi hua” I froze. He smiled."
He further mentioned how honoured he felt meeting the Captain and portraying him on screen. "I knew I was talking to a real life hero. It was such a huge honour to get to depict Captain Devi Sharan on screen. His efforts to save lives amidst chaos and dread is truly inspiring! Set to release on Netflix, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is based on real-life events. In December 1999, an Indian Airlines Airbus A3000 en route from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India was hijacked. The hijackers demanded that the plane be flown to several locations, after it finally landed in Kandahar, Afghanistan (which was under the control of the Taliban). The show will take us to the tough challenges faced by the entire country during this tough time promising to be a gripping narrative.
