The House of the Dragon season 2 finale trailer hints at another major conflict. Season 2 has seen the Black and Greens draw nearer to war following Luke's death in season 1, beginning with Blood and Cheese and the duel between the Cargyll siblings. Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys met their end at the decisive Battle of Rook's Rest, which marked the start of the all-out war. As the sixth episode of House of the Dragon's second season comes to a close, Rhaenyra boards Syrax to face Addam of Hull, Seasmoke's new rider. The Blacks intend to enlist Dragonseeds in their cause. 

New riders and rising tensions

After the seventh episode aired, Max unveiled the trailer for the season two finale of House of the Dragon. The upcoming season 2 finale features Rhaenyra, Aemond, and all the main characters preparing for combat, following the addition of new riders to several dragons in episode 7.

The Blacks made significant strides in the war in House of the Dragon, Season 2, Episode 7, following a devastating defeat in the Battle of Rook's Rest in Episode 4. Rhaenyra and Syrax confront Addam of Hull, a new rider for Seasmoke, at the beginning of the episode. Addam is the bastard son of Corlys Velaryon and the half-brother of Laenor, Rhaenyra's husband, who rode Seasmoke before. Despite Addam and Rhaenyra's confusion over his claim to Seasmoke, he promptly swears allegiance to the Queen and her cause.

Later, Mysaria suggests that Targaryen bastards might be in control of the remaining dragons on Dragonstone without riders. Rhaenyra responds solemnly by promising to gather an "army of bastards" by calling dragonseeds in King's Landing. Those who rise to the occasion and set sail for Dragonstone include Hugh Hammer and Ulf White. After what seems like an equally terrible attempt, with Vermithor slaughtering a large number of Targaryen bastards, Hugh is able to take Vermithor, while Ulf claims Silverwing.

Preview of the climactic battle

In the season 2 finale teaser, Rhaenyra advises that she and her three additional dragons should attack quickly while they are at an advantage, signalling that they will finally be able to face Aemond and Vhagar. At the same time, Aemond starts preparing his own defence, informing Helaena that she must take flight with her dragon, Dreamfyre, in order to fight. In the preview, we see ships at sea and a castle on fire, which strongly implies that the fight of the gullet, the last fight of House of the Dragon season 2, may be on the horizon.
