With so much anticipated content on the horizon, it’s easy to lose track of the big tentpole movies lining up for release. As we eagerly await Kraven The Hunter, Joker: Folie à Deux, Venom: The Last Dance, and others, there’s another superhero movie outside the MCU and DCU set to hit theaters this year: Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Though it hasn’t generated the same level of anticipation as the aforementioned films, it has built a respectable following eagerly awaiting its release. Director Brian Taylor recently addressed the biggest question that fans and audiences have been pondering. 

Hellboy The Crooked Man Director On Pressure

For those unfamiliar, Hellboy: The Crooked Man follows the unsuccessful 2019 Hellboy movie directed by Neil Marshall. A major question at the time was how anyone could top a franchise that had been shaped by the legendary Guillermo del Toro, and create a movie that matches his vision and caliber. Brian Taylor now faces a similar challenge, and fans are curious to see whether he can capture the essence that del Toro brought to the series. However, Taylor has confirmed that replicating del Toro's style is not his goal with The Crooked Man. Read on to find out more.

"I don’t think in terms of 'it’s a reboot' or trying to start a new franchise – this isn’t content, it’s a movie that needs to stand on its own," the filmmaker explained to ComicBook. "Nobody wants to see a cheap knock-off of a Guillermo del Toro $100-million movie. This is going back to the young Hellboy where he was really more of the plumber who’s going to fix your monster problem."

Taylor added, "This wandering, sarcastic, soulful, smoking guy who stumbles on supernatural hauntings and occurrences and helps out as best he can. If Mike [Mignola] feels like for the first time he sees his guy on screen, then I feel like we’ve succeeded." It will indeed be exciting to see the new vibe Taylor has brought to Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man New Look

Jake Kesy has been the talk of the town for his portrayal of the Right Hand of Doom in Hellboy: The Crooked Man. In a couple of stills offering a new look at his version of the character, we see him in all his glory. The black-and-white images are intriguing and provide a detailed, zoomed-out look at the character. The cast is led by Jack Kesy as Hellboy, Jefferson White as Tom Ferrell, and Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song. We’ll also see Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as the Crooked Man.
