The screenplay of the 2023 Tamil film Parking has been acquired by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to go into the permanent Core Collection, the producer of the film, KS Sinish revealed on social media on Thursday. Parking is currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. 

The Academy acquires Parking screenplay

Parking is 2023 Tamil film which starred actors MS Bhaskar and Harish Kalyan in the lead roles. The film revolves around a clash of ego between two men from different generations, as they share the space in the apartment building they are living in.

The film, upon its release, became one of the critically acclaimed films of 2023 and explored the psyche of male ego. It also received praise for its screenplay and direction, while the performances of MS Bhaskar and Harish Kalyan were also lauded. Now, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has acquired the screenplay of the film for its permanent Core Collection.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one of the producers of Parking, KS Sinish wrote, "Really we don't know how big of a moment this is! But so delighted to receive this mail from The Academy and honoured to have the screenplay of our #Parking along side many of the greatest works at the scripts library of the #Oscars.”

Directed by filmmaker Ramkumar Balakrishnan in his debut, Parking also stars Indhuja Ravichandran, Rama, Prarthana, and others in prominent roles. The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram, and K.S. Sinish and has music by Sam CS. The film was shot by Jiju Sunny and edited by Philomin Raj.

As per latest reports, the remake rights of Parking were sold for four Indian languages, including Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi and one foreign language. However more information on the film’s remakes are yet to be formally revealed. The film is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
