We had already reported that actors Soori and Anna Ben will be starring in the upcoming Tamil film Kottukkaali. The film is backed by actor Sivakarthikeyan’s home banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions. On Wednesday, for the occasion of Anna Ben’s birthday, the makers of the film released a special poster of her character.
Anna Ben as Meena from Kottukkaali
Kottukkaali stars Soori and Anna Ben in the lead role. The film is directed by filmmaker PS Vinothraj who earlier made the critically appreciated Koozhangal. Kottukkaali marks the director’s second film and just like his debut, Kottukkaali made a splash at the festival circuit and earned early positive reviews.
On Wednesday, the makers of the film released a character poster of Anna Ben from the film. She plays the role of Meena, a girl who is in love with a lowered caste man and believed to be possessed by some spirit by her family.
Kottukkaali revolves around two Indian families who are preparing for the wedding of their daughter, Meena, and son, Pandi. However, complications arise as Meena is in love with someone from a lower caste. The film unfolds after the wedding ceremonies are completed, and Meena's seemingly cold demeanour leads her family to believe she is possessed.
More on Kottukkaali
The film is set to hit theatres on August 23. Anna Ben marks her Tamil debut with the film. B Sakthivel is the cinematographer, while Ganesh Siva has handled the editing work. The executive producer is Banu Priya.
Kottukkaali premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year to raving reviews. The film is called The Adamant Girl in its international title reference. Speaking about his character, Soori had earlier said in an interview that he had to undertake some unconventional methods to prepare for the voice modulation. “The doctor was shocked to know that I had wanted to damage my voice. Even as he was skeptical, he suggested some traditional plants which tends to arrest one's voice. That was how I was able to bring the character's voice,” he added.
