Samarjit Lankesh, the offspring of Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh, had been preparing for his debut on the big screen for some time. When the moment arrived for his launch, his parents decided to support his first film. Indrajit’s wife, Arpita, took on the role of producer under their production company, Laughing Buddha Films, while Indrajit himself assumed the duties of writing and directing the project. Titled Gowri, the film featured Samarjit alongside Saanya Iyer, known for her role in Puttagowri Maduve, who was also making her debut. The film premiered in theaters in August of the previous year, but unfortunately, it did not receive a positive response.

The film initially lacked a digital streaming agreement prior to its release, and it has only recently become accessible on an OTT platform. As of April 5, 2025, "Gowri" can be found on Amazon Prime Video; however, there is a stipulation. The film is listed in the platform's store and is available exclusively for rental (transactional video on demand). It can be rented for Rs 99, featuring Kannada audio and English subtitles.

The film, meanwhile, had Samarjit in a double role, which served as a perfect talent show for the youngster. While he was a stylish modern-day youth in one avatar, the other had a more rustic touch. What was also commendable was that Indrajit had one of his protagonists with a hearing impediment. Unfortunately, instead of capitalising on this and building an emotionally-wrenching tale, the disability often becomes an after-thought, as scene-after-scene is designed to allow Samarjit to flex his skills sets.

The emerging actor is reportedly involved in director Nandakishore’s upcoming project, Vrushabha, a bilingual film in Telugu and Kannada featuring Mohanlal in the lead role. According to sources, Samarjit has taken over the role originally intended for Roshan Meka, who was set to portray the son of the Malayalam superstar in the movie. The production team has not yet made an official announcement regarding this casting change.
