Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh is very excited about his next, Gowri, a film in which he is introducing his son, Samarjit as a leading man. The award-winning director, who has been making films for over two decades, has been very vocal about Gowri being his best work to date. And yet, so far he has been tight-lipped about the subject, only dropping subtle hints that he’s put his son through his paces.

With the action teaser and songs, Indrajit has shown audiences that his son is not only pleasing to the eye, but also sports a fantastic physique, and can fight, dance and romance. How he fares in the acting department is probably what the doting father and filmmaker will reveal with the trailer that is dropping on August 5, ahead of the film’s August 15 theatrical outing. Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep, who’s a long-time pal of Indrajit will do the honours and launch the trailer at an event in Bengaluru.

The film, although named after the filmmaker’s late sister, Gauri Lankesh, is only a tribute to her and not based on her life, he’d stated. It is, however, based on a true story, which will be revealed when the film opens in theatres in less than a fortnight. What Indrajit has revealed is that the film is a musical, much like Premaloka, although many of the songs are not stand-alone numbers and are a part of the narrative. The filmmaker has used not 1, but 5 music directors to work on the soundtrack.

Two of the songs, Time Baruthe and Dhool Yebsava, have been well-received since their release. The trailer, meanwhile, besides providing a hint of the plot and what’s in store, is also expected to shed light on the rest of the cast, what with the promotions so far being firmly focused on the film’s lead pair, both of who are making their big screen debut.
