Netflix is preparing for the full-fledged OTT release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which was previously available for rent on Prime Video and ZEE5. The supernatural comedy will begin streaming on OTT giants on July 26, 2024. Gil Kenan helmed the 2024 release, which he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. The film is the fifth instalment in the Ghostbusters franchise and the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021). 

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire plot overview

Returning from their roles in Afterlife are Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, and Logan Kim. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton also make cameo appearances. James Acaster, Emily Alyn Lind, Patton Oswalt, and Kumail Nanjiani are among the new cast members.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, a terrifying god in New York City wants to gather a spectral army, and the veteran Ghostbusters, three years after the events of Afterlife, must band together with their recruits to defeat him.

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family revisits the iconic New York City firehouse to reunite with the original Ghostbusters. The original Ghostbusters have created a clandestine research facility to further their mission of destroying ghosts. However, both the new and old Ghostbusters will need to work together to save their home and prevent a second Ice Age once an ancient item is found and unleashes an army of ghosts that chills the city. 

Sequel potential

Even though there was no official post-credits scene in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to set up the next installment, the fact that the film ends with the escaped ghosts wreaking havoc around New York City implies that the team will have to find and capture the ghosts again in the next Ghostbusters sequel. The plot provides a less daunting challenge for the Ghostbusters to face in a potential sequel, even though one of the spectres could pose a significant danger to the city. 

According to Gamesradar, director Gil Kenan has plot ideas for future games, but nothing is official just yet.
