Malayalam cinema is still going strong in 2025, with standout films like Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Basil Joseph’s Ponman making waves. After captivating audiences in theaters, these movies are highly anticipated for their OTT releases. March 2025 is set to be a big month for Malayalam films on streaming platforms. From Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Kunchacko Boban’s Officer on Duty to Basil Joseph’s Ponman and Mammootty’s Dominic and The Ladies Purse, these are the Malayalam flicks everyone is looking forward to on OTT this March.

Rekhachithram

Following the huge success of Kishkindha Kaandam, Asif Ali returns with Rekhachithram, which has won over both critics and fans. Directed by Jofin T Chacko, the film features Anaswara Rajan in a significant role. This mystery thriller revolves around a cop investigating the disappearance of an aspiring actress from a film set in the 1980s. It's the first Malayalam film of the year to hit the Rs 50-crore mark, making it one of the most anticipated releases on OTT.

Officer on Duty

Expected to drop on OTT: March 20, 2025 (subject to change)

Kunchacko Boban is back in the cop uniform for his role in Officer on Duty, alongside Priya Mani, Jagadish, and Vishak Nair. The movie hit theaters on February 20, 2025, and has received mostly positive feedback. According to OTTplay, Netflix has secured the streaming rights for Officer on Duty, aiming for a release on March 20, 2025.

Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse (TBA)

Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse kicked off Mammootty’s year in film. This movie made waves since it’s the first Malayalam film directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The story revolves around detective Dominic, who sets out to return a lost purse but ends up uncovering a much larger mystery. When it hit theaters in January, the film received a mix of reviews, and now it’s up in the air whether it will resonate with viewers on OTT platforms. 

Pravinkoodu Shappu (TBA)

Basil Joseph returned to the scene after his fantastic performance in Sookshmadarshini with Nazriya Nazim, this time starring in Pravinkoodu Shappu alongside Soubin Shahir and Chemban Vinod Jose. In this film, Basil plays a cop trying to solve a murder mystery at a toddy shop. While Sreeraj Sreenivasan’s movie received some good reviews, it didn’t really attract a large audience in theaters. However, that doesn’t mean that the OTT viewers won’t appreciate Basil Joseph’s intriguing murder mystery. 

Ponman (TBA)

In January 2025, Basil Joseph dropped another film in theaters. Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose also have important roles in this story about underdogs. The plot revolves around a gold dealer named PP Ajesh, who lends gold for a wedding with the expectation that it will be returned. When that promise falls through, Ajesh has to fight for what’s rightfully his. Ponman may have found more love than Pravinkoodu Shappu, but he definitely deserves more recognition.  

Oru Jaathi Jaathakam (TBA)

Vineeth Sreenivasan stars as Jayesh, a guy searching for his ideal partner to tie the knot with. The movie follows his journey as he encounters a bunch of potential brides. While some of the dialogues have raised eyebrows for being a bit offensive, it'll be interesting to see how the film performs when it hits the OTT platforms.
