What felt like the end of an era in 2019 when Game of Thrones wrapped up its eight-season run in July that year was, as soon reported, just the beginning. A couple of years later, talk of spin-offs and prequels began, with the first to be greenlit and enter production being House of the Dragon. This prequel, set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, premiered in 2022, with its second season airing in 2024. The world embraced the first season, eagerly anticipating the second. While Season 2 did generate fan excitement, not everyone was thrilled with it. Surprisingly, even George R. R. Martin has expressed some dissatisfaction with the show and has now voiced his concerns.

George R R Martin Upset With House Of The Dragon?

In a recent blog post, George R. R. Martin, the author of the famous A Song of Ice and Fire series, shared his disappointment with certain aspects of House of the Dragon. In the blog, which primarily discusses the Santa Fe Festival, Martin hinted at his frustration with the show, saying, "I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything that’s gone wrong with House of the Dragon… but I need to do that too, and I will. Not today, though."

Martin also shared that he's had a rough year, filled with stress, anger, conflict, and personal challenges. "I have had a pretty wretched year as well, one full of stress, anger, conflict, and defeat. I need to talk about some of that, and I will, I will… I was away from my computer traveling from July 15 to August 15, so a lot of things that needed saying did not get said," he concluded. This revelation comes as a surprise, as Martin had previously been supportive of the show throughout its journey. He even visited the sets, and the creators paid homage to him by incorporating his likeness into the sacred tree at Harrenhal. However, it remains unclear what specifically has upset him.

The Future of House of the Dragon

According to Comic Book Movie, Ryan Condal, the showrunner of House of the Dragon, has confirmed that production for Season 3 will not begin until 2025. Filming is set to start in early 2025, which means that fans will have to wait close to two years for the new season. Condal has teased that Season 3 will feature a massive war and that the scale will be significantly amped up. He also mentioned that many great events have already been written for the upcoming season.

"There are so many great events that we are already writing in Season 3 as it is. This war really comes to a big head at this point in the storytelling. I mean, if you look at Season 2, it's largely a metaphor for a nuclear conflict. There's going to be giant moments of spectacle but also real moments of surprise and character nuance that we're very much looking forward to. Some of my favorite moments from the book, as a reader, I'm excited to adapt as a dramatist," Condal said.

House of the Dragon Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on JioCinema in India and on Max worldwide. Stay tuned to Mobile Masala for more updates and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
