The teaser of Detective Ujjwalan, Dhyan Sreenivasan's upcoming film, was unveiled by the film's makers today (September 3). To the delight of cinema buffs and the actor's fans, the clip makes a light-hearted yet intriguing introduction to both the film and its protagonist, Ujjwalan, with several allusions from Malayalam cinema.

References in the teaser of Detective Ujjwalan

The teaser does more than just introduce Detective Ujjwalan and provide a brief overview of the project's genre; the makers have gone all out to include references to some of the most iconic detectives in Malayalam cinema. The video shows Ujjwalan seeking the blessings of CID Dasan and Vijayan of 1990 film Akkare Akkare Akkare, CID Moosa played by Dileep and Mammootty's acclaimed character, CBI Sethuramaiyer. One can also see the framed images of cartoon characters, Scooby-Doo and his gang as well as Batman, on his wall.

It's fascinating to note that Fahadh Faasil's "Eda Mwone" dialogue from his most recent superhit film, Aavesham, was also used by the makers. By adding the sound of a thunder, they have further confirmed the movie's link to Weekend Blockbusters' previous film, Minnal Murali, starring Tovino Thomas. Fans are thrilled about this and are curious as to whether the first superhero in Malayalam cinema would appear in the film.

Furthermore, Ujjwalan's foe shares similarities in appearance with Asif Ali's character from the Mammootty film, Rorschach.

Ujjwalan takes a jab at Dhyan Sreenivasan

The protagonist pokes fun at Dhyan Sreenivasan and his previous film choices in the teaser, claiming that while the former has been taking on a number of ridiculous cases, he is currently searching for something significant that will ignite his career. Similarly, the actor has been questioned a lot lately over the films he has chosen, as none of them have left a good impression on viewers or received favourable reviews in theatres. Even though the rest of the flicks barely pulled in theatregoers, his performance in Varshangalkku Shesham garnered appreciation.

After a string of box office setbacks, Detective Ujjwalan is anticipated to provide the Malayalee From India star with the long-overdue breakthrough he deserves.
