The new and exciting teaser has been dropped for Freedom at Midnight. The forthcoming SonyLIV series, created and directed by Nikkhil Advani, deeply explores India's independence, which led to even the partition of the country back in 1947. The first trailer provides a glimpse into a crucial decision-making process regarding the selection of the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Yes, we all know it's Jawaharlal Nehru, but the teaser shows how that came into being.

Freedom at Midnight teaser highlights key historical figures

In the video, Maulana Azad (Pawan Chopra) declares that Sardar Vallabhai Patel (Rajendra Chawla), the President of the Congress Party, will also become the first Prime Minister of Independent India. However, Mahatma Gandhi (Chirag Vohra) enters the meeting and queries Azad about the decision. However, while praising Patel, he hands over the withdrawal of nomination form to him and announces that Jawaharlal Nehru (Sidhant Gupta) is the right fit for the position.

Check out the video below:

For the uninitiated, Patel became India's first deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Series overview

This political drama explores the Indian independence movement, drawing on the 1975 non-fiction book of the same name by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre. It does this by bringing together previously untold stories and pivotal moments from the time when the British colonial rulers divided India into Pakistan and India in 1947.

Emmay Entertainment's Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani produce the show with support from StudioNext and Sony LIV. Nikkhil Advani, showrunner and director, is in charge. Ethan Taylor, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Gundeep Kaur, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Revanta Sarabhai, and Abhinandan Gupta are the writers of the series.

With Freedom at Midnight, SonyLIV and StudioNext CEO Danish Khan announced their most audacious project to date, pledging to produce a series of unprecedented scope and influence. This series is based on the best-selling novel that grips readers with its realistic portrayal of historical events in a thriller format. Khan added that Advani and his exceptionally talented crew ensured an outstanding adaptation from page to screen. This thrilling account of India's freedom will captivate global audiences, and SonyLIV and StudioNext are thrilled to be working with Emmay Entertainment to bring it to life.

Sparked by a casual conversation with Danish Khan about the renowned novel, the show has been the consequence of unshakeable dedication and tireless persistence, according to Advani. They have remained steadfast in their resolve to be genuine throughout this entire process. The series pays heartfelt homage to the brave leaders of the independence fight, including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi. Emmay Entertainment is proud to present a story that captures contemporary India—a series that honors India's history while appealing to viewers around the world.
