After his impressive performance in Jubilee, Sidhant Gupta is gearing up for the release of his next OTT project, Freedom at Midnight. The web show, directed and created by Nikkhil Advani, follows the events around India's Independence Movement and partition. In this series, Sidhant will be seen playing the character of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. During an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Sidhant discussed his role in Freedom at Midnight and one 'binding' factor between him and the former Indian PM.

Sidhant Gupta talks about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

In conversation with us, Sidhant Gupta revealed if it was challenging for him to play Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in Nikkhil Advani's Freedom at Midnight. "There's nothing easy or tough when you are obsessed about something. I was really obsessed about him (Pandit Nehru) when I was playing his role," said Sidhant.

The actor further mentioned, "It was challenging to understand what drove him to give his life to this country. He was a very well-educated guy. For someone like him who could be anywhere or could have done anything — how does someone like him just choose to serve the country and say to himself 'Let's bring freedom to this country and I am going to set a great future for this country' — It is an emotion and a feeling inside of you that cannot be explained. That can only be felt and it was the most important thing."

Humanity was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's religion: Sidhant

Continuing the conversation with us, Sidhant revealed one binding factor between him and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. "His religion was his humanity and that said everything. He respected everyone, every religion, and every citizen of this country to exercise whatever right they wanted, whatever religion they wanted to pursue, or whoever they wanted to pray. But he held onto this religion of humanity, which is also my language. That was the binding factor between him and I," he shared.

Meanwhile, Freedom at Midnight will premiere on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium on November 15, 2024.
