Firefly, the debut feature film production under Shri Mutthu Cine Creations, run by Niveditha Shivarajkumar, the younger daughter of Century Star Shivarajkumar, will not be released on its earlier decided date, October 31. The film, written and directed by Vamshi, who is also the lead actor, is being pushed ahead, what with a bunch of big-ticket star vehicles heading to theatres during the festive season.

Niveditha on why Firefly was postponed

Was Sriimurali’s Bagheera release date the deciding factor? Nivedhitha says, “No no. We pushed the release date ahead because there was a lot of confusion about films like UI. In fact, we didn’t know about the release date of Bagheera, until it was announced on September 11 as October 31. It came out of the blue. In fact, we decided to skip October 31 more than a month ago, because of uncertainty surrounding Martin, UI and even Bhairathi Ranagal. So, then, I was like, let all these big guys finish their releases, and then I will bring my film peacefully to theatres in December.”

But doesn’t December have Dhruva Sarja’s KD in the lineup? “I think so, but it is not confirmed yet. We are just reviewing the situation and seeing what we can do. Hopefully, we get a good date, because the response to the teaser has been really good and I want to release it at a good time,” she adds.

The teaser that was released a few days ago gave audiences a sneak peek into the world of the lead character Vivekananda, aka Vicky (Vamshi), an award-winning Maths teacher, who is smart, but dealing with loneliness, despite having a lot of people around him. The film also stars Rachana Inder, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Sheetal Shetty, and Chitkala Biradar, among others, and deals with Vicky’s attempts to battle this loneliness.

For Niveditha, who has dabbled with Kannada web series production earlier in collaboration with Sakkath Studios, with shows like Honeymoon, By Mistake, and Hate U Romeo, Firefly is a first step into making the kind of cinema that she enjoys.
