Firefly release: THIS is when Niveditha Shivarajkumar is looking at bringing her maiden production venture to theatres

Niveditha Shivarajkumar, the younger daughter of Century Star Shivarajkumar, ventured into content production a few years ago, when she partnered up with Sakkath Studio on a few Kannada web series. Then, in May 2023, she announced her intention to get into feature film production, which she was doing solo with her banner Shri Mutthu Cine Services. Called Firefly, the film marks the directorial debut of Vamshi, who is also playing the lead in it.
The film was meant to be in theatres on October 31, but Niveditha had to postpone it indefinitely, owing to the uncertainty surrounding the releases of movies like UI, Max, Martin, and Bhairathi Ranagal. Back in September, when OTTplay spoke to Niveditha, she had confirmed that her film would skip Deepavali since Bagheera had joined the festival release list.
She was hopeful of a more peaceful December outing for her film, but that’s also not happening, what with Pushpa 2: The Rule taking up the first half of the month, and UI as of now slated for December 20. Even if UI doesn’t make it on this date, Max is poised to take it up, as per the buzz in industry circles.
Firefly likely in February, once Shivarajkumar returns from the US
The latest update on the film is that Firefly is targeting a February release window. Speaking to reporters during a post-release meet-and-greet with audiences for Bhairathi Ranagal, Shivarajkumar hinted at this plan. This is because the actor is set to leave for the US for surgery, where he will be joined by family too and is to return only sometime in January. Niveditha would want her father by her side when her maiden feature film hits theatres.
Shivarajkumar cameo in Firefly
Niveditha had described her film as a commercial artistic project that would be slightly experimental and bring in a new type of filmmaking, with a debutant director at the helm. The teaser that was released a couple of months ago showed Vamshi as Vicky, a smart, but lonesome Maths teacher, and his battles with loneliness. Interestingly, Shivarajkumar has a cameo in the film, as a pizza delivery guy, which was revealed in a special teaser attached with Bhairathi Ranagal.
