Saverio Costanzo on Lily James in Finalmente L'Alba (Finally Dawn)

Director Saverio Costanzo had high praise for his lead actress, Lily James. Speaking to Variety about her role, he said, “She plays Josephine Esperanto, a Hollywood actor who has been on the scene for many years, having started very young. During this night, she grapples with the pain of not being considered a good actress—feeling too affected.”

He continued, “She feels outdated compared to the new acting styles of a new wave of American cinema that’s more realistic. Josephine is a tragic and deeply feminine character—very seductive. While Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita might come to mind, Josephine is a more complex character, with greater depth.”
