For several months, we have been eagerly awaiting Fawad Khan's return to Hindi cinema, and what better way to celebrate his comeback than with a romantic comedy? Following an unanticipated break from Bollywood due to unforeseen circumstances that necessitated his exit from India, Fawad generated excitement among fans when it was announced that he would star alongside Vaani Kapoor in a rom-com titled Abir Gulaal, which is set to be filmed in London. Behind-the-scenes images from the production quickly gained popularity, further increasing anticipation for the film's debut. Now, the wait has come to an end, as the producers have released the teaser and revealed the release date.

Abir Gulaal Release Date and Teaser Out!

Featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor in leading roles, Abir Gulaal is described in its official synopsis as “a touching narrative set against the charming backdrop of London, intertwining a love story rich with unforeseen twists, heartfelt moments, and enchanting experiences. Viewers can look forward to a delightful mix of humor, romance, and undeniable chemistry between Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor.”

The teaser provides a sneak peek into the elements of flirtation, romance, and endearing interactions, establishing the groundwork for the quintessential romantic comedy that fans have eagerly anticipated.

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, known for Chalti Rahe Zindagi, and produced by Indian Stories and A Richer Lens in collaboration with Aarjay Pictures, Abir Gulaal also sees producers Avantika Hari, Rakesh Sippy, and Vivek B. Agrawal (notable for Queen, Udta Punjab, and Sacred Games). This film signifies Fawad Khan’s return to the Indian film industry after nearly ten years.

Alongside Vaani Kapoor, Abir Gulaal is scheduled for a global theatrical release on May 9, 2025.

Fawad Khan’s Return to Bollywood

Since 2016, an informal prohibition on Pakistani artists performing in India has been in place, stemming from the political discord between the two countries, with several political factions in India advocating for such limitations. Although no formal legal order was established, a petition was submitted to the Bombay High Court in 2023, requesting an official ban on Pakistani artists. Nevertheless, the court rejected the petition.

In its decision, the court remarked, “Activities such as arts, music, sports, culture, and dance surpass boundaries of nationality and culture. They genuinely promote peace, serenity, unity, and harmony both within and among nations.”

With the release of Abir Gulaal scheduled for May 9, 2025, the film has emerged as one of the most eagerly awaited projects in the nation.
