Fatima Sana Shaikh burst onto the Bollywood scene with her debut in Aamir Khan's Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film became a massive hit, even breaking records to become the highest-grossing Indian film ever. She later reunited with Aamir for YRF's Thugs of Hindostan, which also featured Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. Unfortunately, despite the star-studded cast, the movie didn't do well and only managed to rake in Rs 151.30 crore (Hindi) at the domestic box office. In a recent interview, Fatima opened up about the film's failure and its impact on her career.

Fatima Sana Shaikh faced a drop in job opportunities following the failure of Thugs of Hindostan

Fatima, who kicked off her career as a child actress, shared that she got dropped from two films after the failure of Thugs of Hindostan, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. In a chat with Bollywood Bubble, she reflected on that tough time. Still, she mentioned that she didn’t take it to heart since she views it as just part of the industry. Fatima explained, "When a director has a flop, it can make it tough for them to get their next project off the ground. The same goes for actors — sometimes you get cut from a few films. That happened to me too. After Thugs of Hindostan didn’t do well, I lost out on two projects. But I don’t let it get to me; it’s just how the business works. I totally get why a producer would want to replace an actor whose last project didn’t hit the mark."

When asked if Aamir Khan owning up to the failure of Thugs of Hindostan changed anything, she mentioned it didn’t really make a difference since it’s a team effort. She said, "When a film does well, even the smallest contributors get recognition. But when it bombs, it’s tough for everyone involved. Sure, some might not care because they have plenty of projects ahead, but that wasn’t my situation. I didn’t have anything else in the pipeline besides Ludo."

What's on the horizon for Fatima Sana Shaikh?

Fatima has appeared in movies such as Ludo, Ajeeb Daastaans, Thar, Sam Bahadur, and Dhak Dhak. Up next, she’ll be in Anurag Basu's ensemble film Metro... In Dino, sharing the screen with Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sensharma, and Neena Gupta. It's set to release in theaters in 2025.
