Fan Theories Suggest a Shared Universe Between "Marco" and "Rifle Club"

This Christmas, two major action-thrillers from Malayalam cinema stole the spotlight: Rifle Club, directed by Aashiq Abu, and Marco, which is known for its intense violence. Fans have noticed an interesting link between the two films.

Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, isn’t a direct sequel, but it does draw inspiration from the villain in Adeni’s earlier film, Mikhael, which starred Nivin Pauly. Unni played the bad guy in Mikhael, and while the two films don’t really connect plot-wise, fans have been revisiting scenes featuring Nivin and Unni online since Marco's release.

What do Marco and Rifle Club have in common?

The standout moment in the film is definitely the epic showdown featuring the characters from Mikhael. Interestingly, fans who caught Rifle Club, which premiered a day before Marco on December 20, quickly pointed out that Navani Devanand, who portrayed Mikhael’s sister Jennifer John, is the link between these two new films.

In Rifle Club, Navani’s character Nadiya plays a crucial role in sparking the main conflict between an arms dealer's gang and the members of a rifle club in Wayanad. This Aashiq Abu film also stars Dileesh Pothan, Anurag Kashyap, and Darshana Rajendran, among others.

Marco is topping the box office charts in Kerala this Christmas season

Both Rifle Club and Marco kicked off with mostly positive reviews, but it's the A-rated film featuring Unni Mukundan that's currently topping the box office. This movie, which also stars Jagadeesh, Siddique, and Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan, has already raked in nearly Rs 15 crore from Kerala and other parts of India by Day 3.

On the other hand, Rifle Club experienced a nice boost on Sunday, pulling in Rs 1.60 crore, bringing its total to Rs 5.10 crore over four days. It'll be interesting to see which film might stumble in the upcoming week, especially with Mohanlal’s Barroz set to premiere on December 25.
