Family Drama, a quirky comedy starring Aachar & Co filmmaker-actor Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy, Daredevil Mustafa-fame Abhay, Poorna Mysore, Rekha Kudligi, among others, in main roles, released in theatres on July 26. Although the film’s promotional material, which hinted at it being a laugh riot, seemed to have clicked with the target audience, based on the online response to it, to the team’s utter despair, that did not translate into actual footfalls. Family Drama had to end its theatrical run after only a week.
Family Drama streaming on Amazon Prime Video
The reviews and feedback from those who’d seen the film were largely positive, which helped the team of Family Drama secure an OTT streaming deal. OTTplay had reported earlier that Family Drama was headed to Amazon Prime Video, but did not stick to the release date that the streamer mentioned on a listicle of upcoming titles for September on its site. According to that listicle, Family Drama was to have begun streaming on September 9, but it didn’t and has been made available by the streamer as of today, September 20. The film team is confident that the film will do well on streaming.
Family Drama follows a family of four – Prasanna (Mahadev Hadappad), his wife Lakshmi (Rekha Kudligi), daughter Divya (Sindhu) and son Abhay (Abhay). Prasanna is the breadwinner, although his family is not quite sure what he does for a living. Given that the family is eternally cash-strapped, Lakshmi is trying to save up and start a neighbourhood kirana store, Divya, a BCom graduate with terrible English-speaking skill, is on the job hunt, while Abhay has a minor accounting job with a small-time thug.
When Prasanna passes away unexpectedly, a client of his visits the family, wondering if they could finish a job he’d taken up. Turns out, Prasanna was closely associated with the underworld, getting rid of bodies for them, and had just given himself a promotion with a supari contract. With Prasanna not available, would the rest of his family be willing to finish what he started?
