He has already mapped out his next steps, with reports indicating that he’s working on a new Netflix show titled Single Papa, starring Kunal Kemmu in the lead role.

Kunal Kemmu made a splash in 2024 with his much-acclaimed directorial debut, Madgaon Express. Now, the actor-filmmaker is back in the spotlight for a Netflix series being developed by Shashank Khaitan. This will mark Khaitan’s entry into long-format content, and he’s chosen the family-centric subject of Single Papa for the project. A source close to the development shared with Pinkvilla that Shashank has crafted Single Papa as a family entertainer with the potential to be a perfect sitcom for viewers at home. Partnering with Netflix, Khaitan is excited to begin filming in Summer 2025, following the release of his movie Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

Kunal Kemmu is set to lead Single Papa, with casting for the show currently underway. According to a source, Shashank Khaitan is assembling a talented ensemble, focusing on actors with great comic timing. While plot details remain under wraps, the title Single Papa suggests the series will explore the journey of a single father navigating fatherhood. The source further revealed, "It's a slice-of-life web series aimed at family audiences, with Kunal Kemmu taking on the titular role. A larger ensemble is being put together, with an emphasis on casting performers who excel in comedy. A full announcement will be made once the entire cast is finalized."

In addition to Single Papa, Shashank Khaitan is reportedly working on another movie for the big screen, aiming to cast young actors. According to a source, the film will have a vibe similar to Pyaar Ka Punchnama, and Khaitan is deeply invested in developing it for a theatrical release. The film is expected to be a home production for the filmmaker.
