Exciting Kannada Films to Watch in Early 2025: A Look at Upcoming Releases

In the last two quarters of 2024, there was quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the release of several major films like Martin, Bhairathi Ranagal, UI, and Max. This situation left many smaller projects hanging around, just waiting for a chance to hit the theaters. With most of the big films now out of the way and the next batch still a bit off, the first three months of the year are set to showcase a bunch of smaller titles in cinemas.
Even with the flood of major releases in Tamil and Telugu taking up most of the screens in Karnataka, there are still some original Kannada films making their way to the Sankranti festival. Sharan’s horror comedy Choo Mantar, Dileep Raj’s Nimma Vasthugaligage Neeve Javaabdaararu, and Srinagarr Kitty’s romantic drama Sanju Weds Geetha are all set to release on January 10.
Rishi is back in action as a cop in Rudra Garuda Purana, and Dinakar Thoogudeepa is making his directorial return with Royal, featuring Viraat and Sanjana Anand. Plus, there's Forest, starring Aniissh, Gurunandan, and Chikkanna, all hitting theaters on January 24.
A week later, the first month wraps up with Naveen Shankar’s long-awaited solo film Nodidavaru Enantare, along with Vijay Raghavendra’s Rippen Swamy and Prajwal Devaraj’s Gana.
Rachel David, known for Love Mocktail 2, has two films coming out back-to-back in February. She’ll first appear in Unlock Raghava with Milind on February 7, followed by Bhuvanam Gaganam just a week later, where she stars alongside Pramod. Bhuvanam Gaganam also features Pruthvi Ambaar, who will then be in the long-awaited Life is Beautiful with Priyanka Upendra on February 28.
Another film that's been delayed but is finally set to release is Shreyas K Manju’s Vishnupriya. This movie, featuring Shreyas alongside Priya Prakash Varrier, is hitting theaters on February 21. Prajwal is also gearing up for a second release in the first quarter, with Rakshasa expected to come out in March.
Just like 2024, this year is looking a bit sparse for major Kannada films. Yash’s Toxic won’t be in theaters in April, and it’s rumored to be pushed to December 2025. Rishab Shetty has confirmed an October release for Kantara Chapter 1, which is currently the only A-list film on the schedule. Rakshit Shetty hasn’t started filming Richard Anthony yet, and Sudeep is set to kick off Billa Ranga Baasha in February.
Darshan, who’s out on bail, is reportedly getting back to work on Devil in February, but it’s uncertain if he can finish it given his legal issues, and whether it will actually release in 2025. Shivarajkumar’s 45 is done, but it seems like it won’t be out until the second quarter, which is also the case for Dhruva Sarja’s KD The Devil.
