Finally, there is an update on when and where audiences will get to see Ekam, the much-awaited debut web series production from Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios. Surprisingly, though, it was not what one was hoping for. In a social media post, Rakshit elaborated on the process of greenlighting the first-ever Kannada web series from his banner, the final cut of which he had seen way back in 2021. But despite his best efforts, Rakshit was not able to bring the show to audiences, which, as he explains now is because there were no takers for a Kannada web series. Mainstream OTT platforms were not ready for a Kannada show.

This bit of news was surprising, truth be told, considering that Voot Select (now JioCinema) had picked up titles like Honeymoon, By Mistake and Love You Abhi earlier. The platform also houses two films produced by Rakshit – 777 Charlie and Sakutumba Sametha. If not JioCinema, SonyLIV seemed like a good place, given how aggressive they’ve been in the web series space. Disney+Hotstar is also a major player in regional web content. While Rakshit did not list the platforms his team has approached over the years, it’s taken him three years to find an alternate option – time enough for any platform that had been approached to express interest.

Ekam's got a release date

Ekam being a show that Rakshit Shetty was thrilled to show to the world, he finally decided to take matters into his hands – Rakshit is bringing the show to audiences on their own platform. Yes, you heard that right! An anthology of 7 stories, Ekam will begin streaming on www.ekamtheseries.com from July 13. If you are hoping to just log in and watch it for free, that won’t be the case though.

“We built a platform from scratch with a nice viewing experience. And now, we are bringing Ekam in front of you, at the price of a movie ticket,” says Sumanth, in the announcement video of Ekam, adding that for Rs 149, a viewer gets access to the episodes, as well as a host of exclusive content. The objective, say the showrunners, is to tell rooted stories and take them to the world.
