Eddelu Manjunatha 2, the final directorial work of the late filmmaker and actor Guruprasad, is presently facing legal challenges, as the director's widow has secured a stay order against its release. However, this is not the primary concern for the team, which includes significant stakeholders such as Mysuru Ramesh and Ravi Dixit. The film has received an A certificate and is specifically designed for a particular audience that appreciates Guruprasad's distinctive style of adult comedy infused with humor.
Guruprasad was engaged in the post-production phase of Eddelu Manjunatha 2, where he portrayed the lead role, when he tragically chose to take his own life. Reports indicate that the filmmaker was burdened by significant debt due to the unsuccessful reception of his earlier project, Ranganayaka, and he had high hopes for a revival with Eddelu Manjunatha 2. However, at the time of his death, the film remained unfinished, and there are claims suggesting that Guruprasad may have even removed certain segments.
Guruprasad never worked with a bound script, which affected the edit
The team, led by editor Uday, has assembled the film and provided it with a sense of completion; however, Ramesh acknowledges that the climax may not meet expectations when compared to the remainder of Eddelu Manjunatha. This is primarily due to Guruprasad's approach, which relied heavily on improvisation rather than a structured script. The absence of a script posed challenges for the team during the editing process, particularly as they worked with the raw footage that lacked audio. The film was initially envisioned by Ravi as a low-budget project, which Guruprasad claimed he could successfully execute through crowd-funding. When Ramesh became part of the team, approximately 70% of the filming had already been completed, and his financial contribution was directed towards the completion of the project.
Eddelu Manjunatha 2 features a cast that includes Rachitha Mahalakshmi, Vageesh Katti, Sharath Lohithashwa, and Chaithra J Achar. Originally scheduled for theatrical release on February 21, the film will now debut on a later date.
