Tamil cinema has experienced a prolonged period of stagnation; however, this trend has recently changed with the release of the film Dragon, starring Pradeep Ranganathan, which has successfully entered the 100-crore club. The film's worldwide gross over its first ten days has reached Rs 100 crore, as announced by the producer, Archana Kalpathi, on social media this past Sunday. The film is both written and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu.

Pradeep Ranganathan and Ashwath Marimuthu, who have been friends for many years, collaborated for the first time on Dragon. The film premiered on February 22 and received favorable reviews. Produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh, and Kalpathi S. Suresh under the banner of AGS Entertainment, Dragon was also released in Telugu under the title Return of the Dragon. The narrative centers on a college student burdened with 48 arrears, who is now enjoying a prosperous life with a high-paying job and an impending marriage. However, an unexpected situation compels him to return to college to resolve his academic backlogs, all while keeping this endeavor a secret from his girlfriend, employer, and family.

Currently, Dragon ranks as the second highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, following Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi. Given the success of Dragon, it is anticipated that it will soon surpass Vidaamuyarchi. Furthermore, it is projected to exceed the earnings of Pradeep’s previous film, Love Today, which achieved a collection of Rs 105 crore.
