Amal Neerad's film centers on the story of Reethu, a young woman grappling with amnesia following a tragic accident. Her husband, Dr. Royce Thomas, serves as her primary source of support during these challenging times. However, the narrative shifts when ACP David Koshy, who is conducting an investigation into the disappearance of tourists in Kerala, begins to suspect Reethu's connection to the case. In the film, Jyothirmayi and Kunchacko Boban portray the characters of Reethu and Dr. Royce Thomas, respectively, while Fahadh Faasil takes on the role of ACP David Koshy IPS.

Bougainvillea is co-written by Lajo Jose and director Amal Neerad. The film features supporting performances by Sharaf U Dheen, Srindaa, Veena Nandakumar, Shobi Thilakan, Jinu Joseph, Athira Patel, Vijilesh Karayad, Nisthar Sait, among others.
